Other similar Concentrated Fertilisers are available. N .B.—When these Wits are multiplied by the percentages in the analysis of a Marl/we, they will produce a value representing very nearly the cash price per ton at which T W0 TONS may be bought for flow solvable condition at Leith or Glasgow. Larger purchases may be made on more favourable terms. CHEMICAL DEPARTMENT. 55 FEEDING-BTUFFS. Name of Feeding-Stud. pgrrlfign. Name of Feeding-Stuff. pePrrrlligau. CLASSIFICATION OF MANURES. Genuine Bone Meal contains about 20 per cent Phosphoric Acid equal to 43'7 per cent Tricalcinm Phosphate, and about 4 per cent Nitrogen. IfPhosphatesarelow, Nitrogen will be high, and conversely. Boss. MEALS . . Ground to flour, and containing 30 per cent Phosphoric Acid equal to about 65 per cent Phosphates and about 1 per cent Nitrogen. Sl‘EAhIRD BONE FLous. Soluble Phosphoric Acid,4/10£ ; Insoluble Phosphoric Acid, 3/4 ', and Potash, 4/5 (from inuriate); 5/3 (from sulphate). The value so arrived at will be the value at Leith or Glas- gow, exclusive of the cost of mixing, bags and bagging, which may be taken on an average at about 20/6 per ton. MIXTURES AND Coupons MANURES . . Must be pure—13.2., containing nothing but natural bones and Sulphuric Acid. To be valued according to the following units: Nitrogen, 7/6; DISSOLVED Boxes INSTRUCTIONS FOR VALUING MANURES. The unit used for the valuation of manures is the hundredth part of a ton, and as the results of analyses of manures are expressed in parts per hundred, the percentage of any ingredient of a. manure when multiplied by the price of the unit of that ingredient represents the value of the quantity of it contained in a. ton. _ As an example take muriate of potash; a good sample (see p. 54) Will be guaranteed to contain 50 per cent of oxxde of potash. All potash manures are valued according to the amount of potash (oxrde of potash) they yield, and muriate of potash yields 50 per cent 01 potash (K,O)—i.e,, 50 units per ton; and as a ton of muriate of potash costs £9, 5s., the price of the unit is the fiftieth part of that—viz, 3/81k. If on analys1s a sample of muriate of potash guaranteed to contain 50 per cent of potash is found to contain only 47 per cent, the price per ton Will be 11/1 (three times 3/8%) less—viz, £8, 13s. 11d. . I I Similarly with all other manures, the price per unit is der1ved from |
